making cheap homemade wedding invitations?

February 27, 2010

so i am kind of a DIY bride, and I am trying to get some ideas where I can put together a low cost (our budget is very small) wedding invitation. i would perfer to make the whole thing myself, except for the print out of the wedding details so i dont have to keep writing it over and over again. any suggestions? thank you. :)

I know a lot of people love the kits, but I wanted to do our invitations all myself as well. Something simple and creative.

So, I got some lovely, blank-inside note cards (on sale, no less), some double-sided tape, and some tracing paper, and some colored paper. I cut the colored paper to the size of the inside of each note card and affixed it to the right side of the card with the double-sided tape. I printed the information on the tracing paper (tedious – you have to feed one sheet at a time, and it jams – but it’s worth it), cut it to size as well, and layered it over the colored paper.

The invitations were easy to make, cost very little, were original, and looked great. Everyone loved them.

How do I create my own wedding invites?

Using Word? Step by step please!

Or is there a good programme that you recommend I use instead?

Using Word is definitely doable. We did it for our invitations and it worked fine. The most important thing to remember is that you won’t get everything lined up right first time, so test print on a sheet of paper cut to the same size as the invitation card, to make sure it comes out right!

Steps:
1. Decide what sort of card you’re having! i.e. an A5 single sided piece of card, or an A4 folded with the fold on the left, or an A4 folded with the fold at the top etc.
2. Make a new Word document. File-Page Setup and set the page up how you need it, i.e. select size of paper, portrait, landscape, margins (i.e. how close to edge it can print).
3. Type your text (selecting fonts, sizes etc.)
4. Move your text to where it needs to be. You can move it down the page by pressing return. You can move it across the page (if, for example, you need it to print on the right hand side of the page) using the arrows on the ruler at the top of the page; or possibly by going Format-Columns.
5. Insert any pictures you want. Move them around.
6. We put a block border on ours – a 2mm thick burgundy line around the page. You can do this by using the drawing toolbar (View-Toolbars-Drawing if not already turned on), drawing a rectangle, then right clicking on it and "Format Autoshape" then playing with line thicknesses, colours etc.
7. Print out a test page on a piece of paper so you don’t print on your expensive invitations with mistakes!

Where can I find clipart to use on wedding invitations?

February 27, 2010

I am looking for clipart that I can use in designing some wedding invitations. I want designs like damask, flourish, scrolls, both single designs and background images. I am interested in online sites and/or software that I can purchase.
I am looking for clipart that I can use in designing some wedding invitations. I want designs like damask, flourish, scrolls, both single designs and background images. I am interested in online sites and/or software that I can purchase. I am NOT looking for cheesy pictures of a cartoon-looking man and woman in wedding attire, I want graphics or designs. I’m looking for something that looks professional and classy and elegant.

There are lots of websites that offer themed clipart, you can try some of the following:

Hope that helps! =)
