What as the Royal Family being circumcised got to do with all this . Being circumcised is a damn site cleaner than having stinking forskins like many well dressed men have underneath there saville row suits .
Any recycled wedding favor ideas?
May 30, 2010
I’m looking for ideas for recycled or cheap wedding favors for a summer beach wedding. I have about 250 guests invited and don’t want to see 250 favors in the trash. I was thinking of something edible or ecofriendly. Any ideas?
I have a good answer
You can raise awareness and help any number of good causes.
Make a donation in your guests’ names to a favorite charity, like the humane society. You can then get a piece of recycled paper and make a bookmark or just a little notecard with a stamp and maybe a cute ribbon or piece of raffia (biodegradable). Stamps aren’t wasteful. Make the stamp charity-related, like a ribbon for a Race for the Cure donation. Then put the charity name and website or phone number on the bookmark. You can easily get a stamp for 6 or 7 dollars, paper is cheap, and ink too. Just look for coupons.

Brother’s wedding in Hawaii?
May 27, 2010
My brother sent me an invitation to his wedding in Hawaii. I’m pretty much the only family he’s got so I’d like to be there but there is NO WAY I can afford getting there. The wedding is taking place at this swanky hotel that costs $505 a night with some kind of discount he got for us, but the airfare is what’s killing me. For me and my husband to go it’s going to cost $1250 RT each for coach. I can’t afford that. Even if I leave my husband at home and go alone, I still can’t afford that!
I feel bad because all of his friends (who happen to be super wealthy) are going and it’s going to look horrible if his only family member isn’t showing up but people who barely know him, like this one guy he went to med school with for 3 months, is going to be there.
Should I use a credit card to pay for this or what?
I’ve hinted to my brother many many times that I can’t afford that kind of trip.
This is why I’m generally anti-destination wedding. Just because of the strain it puts on your guests/family, because they WANT to be there for you, but the cost gets in the way.
I know how to travel unbelievably cheap, where are you flying from? And where is the wedding at (town). Do you *need* to stay at the swanky hotel or can you stay somewhere reasonably priced? I’ve traveled to Europe for $1500 for a month (including airfare, hotel/hostel, meals, sightseeing). When is he getting married? Also, if your husband can’t make it, is there someone else you can at least room with if nothing else?
Personally, if I wanted my sister/brother at my wedding in Hawaii, Fiji or Detroit, and I knew they couldn’t afford it.. I’d pay their way if I had to. But on the other end if my brothers got married out of town, if I was in a position where I couldn’t afford it, I’d figure out a way.
In the end, I would put it on my credit card if I had to and work hard at paying it off quick (or before I went if I planned well enough in advance)
What is the politest way to go about telling people we do not want children at the wedding??
May 27, 2010
What the nicest poliest way to tell people on the invites and should tell them earlier that children will not be invited to the wedding? We booked a great cater but they do not have a discount for children. We have 10 children we would have to invite- we couldn’t invite one realtive and not another….. but at $70 a head, that’s $700!!! I don’t mind teenagers… at least they can eat an adult meal but I am talking if your over 1 year old they charge of an adult and we have 10 kids ranging from 2-6 in our family.
I don’t mean to be cheap but we are trying to cut cost at every angle and even my FI thinks that paying that much for children is crazy…
What the politest way to let people know that their children are not invited?? I know that addressing the envlopes in the major key but I don’t think that all people pay attention to that… and sometime throw out the envelope and then fill out the RSVP months later. So I wanted to put something on the RSVP card.
Thanks!!
I just wanted to Add, I live in NJ and $70 is dirty cheap to have a wedding… most places want $130-$150 per person to have a wedding in a hall or ballroom…. We can’t change caters because they are a good price and still very beautiful and formal looking. We are NOT allowed to bring any food in from outside which is pretty standard for any hall or ballroom. It’s illegal to carry in food that is not from the approved.
The kids would be bored anyway, so do not feel guilty.
If you have relatives who live in other cities, you might want to consider hiring a sitter to take care of them in your parent’s house or something of that nature. If you really want the parents to be there, and know they cannot afford to pay for babysitting for few days, that might be an option (and paying for few hours will be less than 700).
or, you can do what i did-simply ask them not to bring them- I didn’t want any kids at my wedding, because I wanted to be nice w/o brats running around (my husband’s family is very large). Just make sure you do not use the word "brats"- that didn’t fly too well.
Was I rude?- probably a little bit. Did I care- no, since it was MY day, and it was ME who was paying for it
Where can I find really cheap but nice wedding invitations online?
May 27, 2010
i found a great site at 123print.com, but the colors are not what I am looking for. Is there a site comparable to the quality and prices of 123print.com? They are about $15.00 for 25 invitations and RSVP cards. Thanks!

If that’s not what you’re looking for, go to theknot.com
