How much to charge for wedding invites?
November 20, 2009
I am designing some friends wedding invites, and they want to pay me an average cost. Does anyone know how much they paid for their invites? I want to be reasonable
THanks!
I made my own invites, so I only paid for the costs involved, but I agree with the previous answer. If they’re your friends you could offer it as their wedding present.

If they are a friend, why dont you just charge them what ever it cost you. Having just being married myself any spared expense helps, even if you make it there wedding gift to them

Well, I went the el-cheapo way and went to wal-mart and bought my own kit from good ol’ martha stewarts set for 20 bucks a set. I got to sets so total was 40 dollars for eighty invitations. I would honestly charge about 100 bucks. You wouldnt believe how expensive those invites can get online! They are like 1 dollar an invite and then separate costs for RSVPs and things like that! So it would depend on how many she was getting, how much supplies cost for you, and…wait just the design? I need more detail. Is someone else making them? Or are you? Another idea…check out what other people charge and then cut it in half.

I made my own invitations for my wedding. I went to staples and spent about $30 on nice paper and envelopes. Then I made up the invitation in word. I had to pay for another ink cartridge in the printer but that only cost $25. This saved me so much money seeing that invitations that you can buy from a business cost $1 and up at most places and you are lucky if you can find them for $1 a piece. Once I made them all up it only took me 3 hours to print them all out, fold them, stuff the envelopes and stamp them (I even printed all the addresses out).
If it is your friend as you said, how about doing it as a favor/ in lieu of your wedding gift for them? Doing this would help A lot as with the financial times a lot of people are having, coming up with the money is hard.

Totally depends what they look like. How much do the materials cost you? Do you have a degree or any special training? I would say 50 cents to $1 for each invite.
I paid about $1.70 for each one. That was a year ago, and I think that was just the invite and an envelope, so I paid extra for reception cards and response cards/envelopes. So expensive! Ended up being $400 for 75. I got the save the dates- SUPER nice- for about 25 cents each from a designer on eBay.

I personally would tell the couple it will be your wedding gift to them, unless the costs are far above what you would spend on an actual gift.
