When addressing wedding invites, do you spell out the state name? Like CO or Colorado?

I know you spell it out on the return flap, but what about the guest name and address?
The abbreviated form is NOT ACCEPTABLE. The street is written out, the city is written out, and the state is written out. A wedding invitation is a piece of social stationery it should NOT look like business or commercial mail.

Abbreviated is preferred because it’s easier for the post office’s scanner. If you write it out your invites will need to be sorted by hand, which will take longer.

I just had mine printed, and they spelled the whole name of the state. However, I have seen it abbreviated, so I would think either way is acceptable.
